August 6, 2002. Here are some pictures of the socks on my feet.

stylin'!

you put your left paw in...
In this picture, Peatie tries desperately to engage me in a celebratory round of the hokey pokey, but I'll have none of that. My fancy socks are not meant for hokey pokeying.

July 31, 2002. Finished! I'm so excited.

socks!

Even though these took me forever to knit, I'm kind of looking forward to my next pair. The socks are the same size, by the way, but scanning them in somehow made the one on the right look much longer. If you're wondering why they look sort of stretched out already, it's because I have tried them on roughly 4 billion times.

July 29, 2002. These are looking more like socks now, finally. I'm totally ready to be done with these, though! That said, I'm pretty psyched about how they're turning out.

progressing slowly, slowly

July 24, 2002. I've turned the heels on both socks, and completed the gusset decreases on one of them. Once I did the gusset decreases, it actually started looking like a sock, rather than some ill-fated leg warmer.

Socks as of July 24. Why does it seem like these are taking forever to knit?

July 17, 2002. I'm ready to start the heel flap on one of the socks, and about 10 rows away from the heel flap on the other. Moving right along.

July 14, 2002. Here's where I am on my socks. I started them about two weeks ago. They were originally going to be a gift, but there's no way they can be a gift now, since I messed up the k1p1 ribbing a bit, and then I also learned that I'm twisting my stitches. Rather than go along with my usual mantra of "if you're doing it wrong, do it wrong consistently," I decided to start knitting properly midway through on these, and you can definitely tell. On a happier note, at least now, finally, I'm knitting correctly. The arrow shows where I went from crazy-wrong knitting to proper knitting.

socks as of July 14

Thank you to whomever told me to do both socks at the same time. There's no question that it would be hard to start on that second sock after the first one was done.
