July 17, 2002. I made a new book. It's a journal to keep track of my knitting. Today I was in the grocery store, and the woman in front of me was talking about how much she hates the new receipts. Of course I had to pipe in with how much I love them. The cashier told me I was the only person who had said I liked them. I asked why people wouldn't like them, and she said everyone thought they were too long, and hard to read. Hard to read? How can these possibly be hard to read? They're so much easier to read than some big jumble of groceries listed in whatever order you put them on the conveyor belt! I told the cashier I liked to see what percentage of my grocery bill I was spending on produce, and I think she thought I was kidding.

July 14, 2002. If you missed the chickens wearing hats last week, go here to see them. It's worth it.
Dave and I missed the Moxie Festival today. It was still sort of going on, but I guess yesterday was the big day. All they had today was watching a canoe race go by. We did buy a shirt for my friend Jessica whose cat is named Moxie (the shirt says, "I've got Moxie!") and we bought a sticker for the van that says, "Moxie Makes Mainers Mighty!" For those of you who don't know, Moxie is a soda that was originally made in Maine. It's what I might call an acquired taste. My friend Ian pegged it by describing it as tasting like "All the sodas...with a bubble gum chaser." I like the whole Moxie subculture though, and I also like the guy on the Moxie can. |
